If you are one of those who are very keen on seeing a significant reduction in your weight, then you cannot afford to ignore the importance of using celery as a part of your diet regimen. However, there are certain ground rules that need to be followed when you are in a celery diet. First and foremost when you are in a celery diet it is very important for us to consume only water along with the celery. The quantity of celery that needs to be taken would vary from person to person. Further it is also important to not that the entire dieting period could range from a few days to a couple of weeks. Here again the final goal would decide on the number of days you should be on a celery diet. While there is one school of thought which says that it indeed is a great way to reduce excess weight and shed those extra inches of fat, critics on the other hand are vocal in saying that celery diet is no diet at all but it starvation in the garb of dieting.

One of the most common reason why people go in for celery diet is because of the fact that it is considered to be a very good negative calorie food. In other words, it takes far more calories to digest celery than the calories that this food item provides. So whenever you are on a celery diet you would be burning of more calories digesting the food than what you will be adding to your body. This in effect plays a big role in burning out those excess calories. This is because the body takes excess fat from the body and converts them into calorie energy thus leading to weight loss.

While there is no denying the fact that celery contains vitamins and minerals, critics often state that it is very low on essential nutrients like proteins and carbohydrates and hence continuing with a celery diet could lead to more problems than solutions. Further whenever the body is faced with starvation it automatically slows down its metabolism rate and starts storing more fat and energy. Hence, any unplanned celery diet could at the end of the day prove counterproductive and may eventually lead to an increase of weight rather than decrease in it. Hence, at best any celery diet could be considered only a short term solution and at best could be called a temporary fasting option.
