Timing Pregnancy Healthy For Women

According to a new article from the journal Nursing for Women’s Health has highlighted the importance of a woman’s ability to time her pregnancy. The study author has asserted that contraception is an ideal way to promote health in women; with contraception women are likely to work with their health care providers in regulating their ability to conceive reducing the possibility of birth complications and the complications of pregnancy.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revealed that there are more than four million births in the US in 2009; these births have shown an increase in severe obstetric complications as well as diseases like renal failure, pulmonary embolism, the need for blood transfusion and many more complications. There was also a noticeable increase in maternal mortality in the past 20 years.

Catherine Ruhl, CNM, MS, Director of Women’s Health Programs at the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) in Washington, DC. has revealed that there is an urgent need for women to have access to contraceptive methods so she can prepare herself physically and mentally for childbearing. The rising rate of maternal deaths due to pregnancy will be reduced with the help of better prenatal care and of course ensuring that the mother is absolutely healthy before she conceives.

Ruhl also agrees that contraceptive methods and counseling must be considered preventive methods that can avoid pregnancy not until the woman is fit before she decides to have a baby. This statement is also related to the rising health conditions in women that have to be addressed before she gets pregnant like diabetes, hypertension and obesity.

Women must be educated about contraception, their reproductive goals and many other issues regarding reproductive health by health care providers. This may be done in a community setting or through online help that are accessible to women wherever they are.
