Personal Therapies For Acne

There are certain individuals who suffer repeated bouts of acne, and such people need to know how to prevent such occurrences, or treat them using home remedies. Home remedies are preferred for personal reasons including saving money or just the preference for natural treatment practices. The only problem with such remedies is that they cannot completely eradicate the inflammations caused by acne.

There are multiple therapies for acne while at home. Some of the common ingredients used in preparing the remedies include basil, aloe Vera, vinegar, cucumbers, limes, lemons, potatoes, garlic and toothpaste. People with acne are often seen smearing toothpaste over the affected areas, or rubbing lemons over the inflammations, or simply applying aloe Vera over the infection to minimize scarring. The problem with such methods is that they may worsen the acne, and cause more inflammation on the skin.

People who try to treat acne using home therapies should be informed of the possible dangers of their actions, since they may cause further harm to their skin, since most of the ingredients may clog pores or dry the skin when they get in direct contact with it. For people with repeated occurrences of acne, home remedies may not be sufficient to treat it, and may need to seek either prescribes or over-the-counter medication.

Over-the-counter treatment products have some compounds that result in clearing of the skin, such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid and sulfur. Prescription treatments also contain some of these compounds, though the best results are observed through proper and continuous use of the medication. This is the conclusion observed from studies indicating the same positive results from the use of different percentages of benzoyl peroxide (2.5, 5 and 10 percent). All that is required is a steady application of the medication the required times per day.

Acne can also be caused by hormone imbalances. Home therapies for this causes of acne yield minimal results, and the individual may need to see a doctor. Such imbalances in the hormone levels should be regulated before any positive and visible effects on the acne can be observed. Such hormonal imbalances occur during pregnancy, puberty and menopause, and they may result in acne. Besides these bodily changes, acne can also be caused by hypothyroidism, or other unlikely sources, causing a hormonal imbalance that result in acne. To be on the safe side, it is advisable to test for hormone levels imbalance in the body, when home therapies or other prescription treatments are found to yield minimal results.
