Heart Failure As One Of The Causes Of Diabetes
Oftentimes, heart failure and diabetes go together. According to the findings of a study that claimed to have found the link that leads from heart failure to diabetes, there is a high incidence of heart failure among diabetic patients.
In the January issue of Cell Metabolism, the study conducted by Tohru Minamino of Chiba University Graduate School of Medicine explained the direct relationship of heart failure to diabetes and the reason why there is an increase in insulin resistance in patients with heart failure. It also explains that the treatment of insulin resistance greatly improves when heart failure is prevented or treated.
The study shows that the ultimate culprit is the stress that heart failure gives which activates the sympathetic nervous system. This particular stress response activates the p53 which is dubbed as the “cellular aging signal”. When p53 is activated it may lead to inflammation of fat tissue, insulin resistance as well as worsening of an individual’s cardiac function.
This protein is also known as a tumor-suppressor which is seen as a protective mechanism for cancer development. But the constant activation of the anticancer signal can cause inflammation, increased risk of developing cancer and other chronic diseases and illnesses related to aging.
Minamino’s study earlier revealed that the accumulation of p53 due to age and stress can promote heart failure. Factors such as weight gain, aging and taking in extra calories can inducing the aging signal that can result to the same effects. The study further suggests that the most appropriate treatment for this scenario is to block the inflammation that develops after the activation of p53 but at the same time no compromising its anti tumor properties.
Surely, this new finding will benefit many who are looking for an anti aging treatment without the risk of developing cancer.
