Fractional CO2 Laser Treatment – Things To Ponder
People today prefer opting for the various cosmetic procedures and treatments available to restore their youthful skin and appear more beautiful. There are many different cosmetic surgeries and other treatments that are available these days and newer techniques are introduced regularly. One of these treatments is the CO2 laser treatment. This is an all in one treatment and can cure acne scars, brown spots, skin discoloration and unevenness, skin aging, wrinkles, sun damages, reducing size of pores, helps in skin tightening, removing fine lines, balancing the skin tone etc. It uses a high standard treatment for skin resurfacing and also gives very effective results.
The CO2 laser treatment has several benefits. In fact the new technique of fractional CO2 laser treatment is even more effective than the conventional method. The first benefit is that minimal downtime. While the conventional CO2 laser treatment takes a minimum of 15 days to heal besides the three months of redness on the face, the fractional laser treatment resurfaces only fractional segments and hence heals within a couple of days. The procedure involves peeling of skin post treatment which may take around 5 days. Modern computer technology has made this possible.
While most patients can immediately leave the hospital once the treatment is over but one needs to take utmost care and follow all the guidelines prescribed by the doctor. Initially the patient may have a burning sensation on the skin for a few hours but it will subside. Usually no other type of pain is involved in this treatment. Then the skin starts flaking and peeling off. This may take around 5-6 days for the entire peeling to complete. While this is happening, the face needs to be protected with lots of moisture by applying Vaseline or other petroleum jelly.
Post peeling, doctors may suggest if the patients can use makeup to cover the redness of the skin. The exact recovery period may depend on the type of treatment used (traditional or fractional), the skin type of the patient, healing ability, extent of resurfacing and obviously the doctor’s discretion. Hence the time may vary in different cases. As per instructions patients should avoid bending, stooping, vigorous exercises, straining yourself, lifting heavy objects and many more things for few days. On the first day post surgery, one should sleep with the face elevated. Once the 5 day period is over, you will see improvement in the skin .
This happens as the collagen is produced more and more and that results in removing the lines and wrinkles quickly. The entire process may take almost 6 months to complete but the results will be very effective. After the fractional CO2 laser treatment, skin should be protected from the sun by using and effective sunscreen or other methods. Most of the times, a single sitting is sufficient. Last but not the least one should choose a reputed and experienced physician who has handled several cases of fractional CO2 laser treatment as he/she will have more accuracy in performing the procedure. It is also very important to strictly follow all the instructions.
