What Is A Food Allergy?

A food allergy is the body’s resistance to a certain food protein. When the protein in question is not digested then the body will interpret that as harmful thus portray allergic reactions as a way of protecting the body. Food allergies can be inherited from one family generation to the next. The body’s inability of digesting some food proteins could be a genetic occurrence.

Effects of food allergies

Severe skin rashes that cause the skin to lose color (hives). These rushes develop to visible skin bumps that become bigger as the allergy intensifies.

A tingly sensation on mouth area and the tongue too which can be really frustrating. The urge to scratch is also experienced on the eyes and even the skin area.

Other allergic reactions cause the entire face to puff up. The swelling will affect the eyes, lips and even worse the tongue.

Some allergies will not allow the person to swallow the food probably because of a swollen tongue and throat.

Difficulty in breathing is another food allergic reaction. This is seen when a person starts wheezing as a clear indication that breathing is getting harder by the minute.

Food allergies should be taken seriously when fainting is involved. When there is fainting, this means that blood is not being properly distributed in the body and this is not a good thing. When the brain is not getting blood, lightheadedness will be experienced and eventually fainting will occur.

Common food allergies

Peanut allergy is a very common food allergy in children. This is because peanuts have oils that have proteins. Some people do not have the ability of digesting these proteins and this causes an allergic reaction to peanuts. The peanut can vary from one peanut type to another.

Egg food allergy is another common type of allergy that both kids and adults face. the part of the egg that causes the allergy is the white part because that is the part that is packed with proteins. Some allergic reactions to eggs are so serious in that the smell of cooking eggs will immediately revolt them.

Milk and yoghurt food allergy happens to be very popular. Kids who have such allergies suffer the most because they would want to have milk or even yoghurt so bad and they will take them irrespective of the effects.

How allergic reactions can be determined

One way to determine an allergy is to have needles that have different food types. These needles are punctured in the skin and whichever needle will elicit a reaction represents a possible food allergy.

Having blood scrutinized is another way of determining if food allergens are present and if the body cannot break down a certain protein, then that will be detected through the blood tested that will be carried out.

Another way is by checking the old fashioned way of possible food allergy reactions.
