Prevent Diabetes: Eat Fish
A new cross sectional study published in the Nutricion Hospitalaria states those adults, suffering from cardiovascular diseases, who consume fish as regular part if the diet are less prone to diabetes than their counterparts. The study was conducted on 340 men and 605 women of the Valencia community who were between the ages of 55 to 80 and are suffering from cardiovascular diseases. Though meat and fish both have been a regular part of their diet, red meat tends to contribute to weight gain and obesity. However, the fish has definitely led to a decrease in the glucose levels and hence in the risk of diabetes to such people.
The exact causes for this are unknown but a previous study also states that consumption of fish does help in lowering the risks of Type 2 diabetes. The Mediterranean diet does include red meat and fish. However the consumption of red meat is much more than the recommended levels. It is therefore important to introduce dietary programs to create awareness among the population regarding the benefits of fish consumption and the ill effects of excess red meat or cured meat consumption. Fish is also beneficial for the heart whereas red meat leads to various heart ailments, high blood pressure, diabetes and few cancers too.

Since childhood, all the elderly members of my family always suggested me to eat fish. They used to say, fish is very good for health and makes your body immune to many diseases. I was very obedient and made it a habit to include fish in my diet. I am happy to have done that because I am 50 years old now and I am leading a very healthy life. Most of my friends are diabetic patients but I am not!
I have read in many articles that consumption of fish really helps to lower the risks of Type 2 diabetes. I also have started to consume fish now.
Well, I guess it is kinda true. My family is in the fishing business. We hardly eat any meat. And none of my family members have diabetes or any kind of heart problems. I just hope that I can keep this up with all the fast food restaurants opening in the neighbourhood.
Seth, Really? No one in your family? That is amazing. My family on the other hand has both diabetes and heart problems. I guess we also should start eating more fish and less stakes.

They do not mention anything about shrimps or lobsters. Besides, do fishes help to reduce the bad effect of alcohol on diabetics?
shrimps or lobsters are not fishes, they are arthropods. I do not think you can reduce the effect of alcohol with fishes either.
Frank, I like fishes very much. I they say I can beat diabetics with fishes I do not mind eating fish as much as they want me too.
