Teeth hygiene
In order to minimize tooth plague, it is really important to clean teeth on a regular basis. There are those people who assume just because they do not eat a lot of candy or sugar treats then they do not have to clean their teeth. This is not a correct assumption. It is important to clean teeth twice a day. And it is even better to clean the teeth after every meal if possible. Those food particles are what cause the plaque to form because they accumulate on the dental structure. Cleaning teeth can involve
1. Flossing- this is a very good way to avoid plaque because the hidden food particles in between teeth can be removed with ease. There are those food particles that cannot be removed by rinsing the mouth or even brushing the teeth. The bristles do not easily get to between the teeth thus it is very important to floss teeth regularly especially after meals and before bed time. Using less harsh flossing materials are better because they will not harm the gums and cause them to bleed.
2. Brushing teeth- this is something that is common knowledge. It should be done in a regular basis especially after a meal. Tooth brushes should be changed every three months because tooth brush bristles do not have a long shelf life. Other than changing the tooth brushes, it is very important to using tooth brushes that have good bristles. The kind that can get between teeth and even the corners of the mouth with ease.
3. Mouth washing- using the right kind of mouth wash after brushing teeth will also play a big role in reducing the chances of plaque developing and becoming permanent.
Choose what you eat
Food that does not stick to teeth is better at preventing plaque. Sugary treats like candy and cookies have a tendency of destroying teeth due to the plaque accumulation. If one has to really have candy, then sugarless candy especially in the form of chewing gum is better. The gum rids of the food stuck on the teeth and it does not stick because it has no sugar which has that sticky property.
Vegetables of a crispy nature are the best for avoiding plaque. They tend to disperse the food particles on the teeth and this rids of the plaque. Carrots and broccoli stand in this bracket and they are not only good for t he body but for the teeth too.
Drinking a lot of water is also very wise because the water helps the saliva dissolve the food on the teeth and rinse it away easily.
