Why Obese People Relapse After Dieting
The population of obese people worldwide is estimated at 1.5 billion and is expected to rise year after year. In Australia alone, it is estimated that about 50% of women are overweight while 60% of men are either overweight or obese.
The initial plan to counter obesity is a complete diet restriction plus an effective physical workout. Although this recommendation typically works, there are a resounding 80% of obese people who were able to reduce their weight but were able to fail to maintain their new weight shortly after. New studies point to the influence of hormones which can lead to weight gain after a successful weight loss plan.
A study which involved 50 overweight adults with a BMI of 27 and 40 was done. Each had an average weight of 95 kg and was started on a 10 week weight loss program with a specified diet. Hormones that influenced appetite were measured before the start of the program and at the end of the program as well. Appetite hormones were also measured a year after the program was over. The results of the tests were amazing; hormones for appetite apparently changed to increase appetite and the changes were sustained for at least a year after the treatment which caused the participants a gain of 5 kgs after the study was over. This was not simply a resumption of their old eating habits but was the direct effect of hormones to stimulate appetite.
Professor Joseph Proietto from the University of Melbourne and Austin Health revealed that hormones generally play an important role in the different metabolic processes of the human body. Hormones also play a great role in regulating body weight which makes dietary and behavioral changes less likely to work in the long run. It is thus important to pursue not only dietary techniques and exercise regimen for weight loss, hormone therapy or manipulation may thus be addressed as well.
Prevention on the other hand is also a perfect factor to consider reducing the possibility of becoming obese; this must be started as early as the preschool years. When children learn how to eat healthier and to be physically active in their early years there will be great possibility that they will grow up healthier and fit in their adult years. Preventing obesity can also prevent certain chronic illnesses like cardiac problems, hypertension, diabetes and decreased the possibility of suffering from a heart attack or stroke.

Sometimes you just cannot lose weight no matter what they do. No exercise or diet will not help you with losing those extra pounds. I have been suffering with hormonal imbalance problems for a very long time. And now my only option is to go for hormone replacement therapy.
I think proper diet and exercise is good enough for losing weight. You just have to know how to control your hunger. If you do not eat greasy fatty foods and exercise regularly, then you will lose weight for sure. I think people who are weak and cannot maintain a healthy life hide behind this hormonal imbalance thing.
Hormonal imbalance can actually cause a person to gain weight. I am fat and I tried almost everything there is except going for surgery. My dietician finally suggested that I might have some hormonal problems. This is a real problems and I suggest everyone to look into this fact if you see that diet and exercise is not helping.
I think the hormonal imbalance thing is very important factor when it comes to losing weight. I have a friend who tried almost everything to lose weight. But everything failed. Later it was discovered that he had hormonal problems that caused him to gain that much weight. Now he is undergoing hormonal treatment and slowly losing weight.
I am also overweight. I tried dieting and exercising. I even tried the commercial pills for losing weight. Do you think I have the same problem your friend had? And how do you diagnose this? Anthony,
Negan, maybe you have the same problems. Well he went to a hormonal disease specialist. You can do that too if you see that nothing is enough to lose weight.
thanks Anthony
