Promising Early Results For Blood-Based Test To Detect Early Alzheimer’s Disease

The project to detect early Alzheimer’s disease through blood-based tests has been seen to be promising with the collaboration of DiaGenic ASA and Pfizer Inc. With an R&D project that involved 120 test subjects which consisted of healthy elderly, patients with mild cognitive development and patients with attention deficits.

This has led to the conclusion of a possible specific blood test that can detect the earliest sign of Alzheimer’s disease. This data is very important to help assess, diagnose and possibly prevent the onset of dementia. The blood test is also crucial to the development of a drug that can possibly treat this disease in its earliest stages.

DiaGenic CEO Erik Christensen, M.D., Ph. D. has hopes of early identification of Alzheimer’s dementia to possibly reduce drug developments costs as well. He also adds the strength of DiaGenic’s technology as a premier in developing blood-based CNS biomarkers.

These findings will be the highlight of the 4th Conference Clinical Trial on Alzheimer’s disease on the 3th to the 5th of November, 2011 in San Diego, U.S.A. Experts in the treatment of this debilitating disease are sure to converge once more for the most efficient and cost effective diagnosis and possible cure.
