Pharmacist Education Requirements for You

Students are allowed to choose the major areas. Some of the different areas pharmacy students can major include aging biology, management of patients and etc. If you intend to sell drugs at a pharmacy, you need to take courses that specialize in community practice. After you graduated from the course, you will be asked to participate in internship program. The internship program allows you to work at the local drug stores and gain experience. If you want to enhance your school performance, you should take a prepharmacy program that last for 4 years. Students who take part in a 4 year prepharmacy program will be more prepared for the university. In some colleges, students need to sit for the PCAT exam. The PCAT (Pharmacy College Admission Test) is very similar to the MCAT exam. There is a minimum grade point average you need to achieve before you can be admitted to the college. Your grade point average should not be lesser than 3.0. If it is lesser than 3.0, very few college will want to accept you into the pharmacy degree program.

You can also take the PTCB (Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) exam. After you pass the PTCB, you have to get recertified once every two years. The recertification is the process of undergoing continuing education in the 2 years period. The minimum hour for the continuing education is 20 hours. You can earn continuing education hours at the local community college, pharmacy associations and training programs designed for pharmacy technician. You can earn ten hours of continuing education at the workplace under the supervision of a pharmacist.

On the job training is provided to people who don’t have certifications. If you don’t have certification, you need to participate in the on the job training. On the job training allows you to work and learn at the same time. You will still earn your wages while receiving training at the pharmacy. The on the job training can last for a few months to one year. You can also participate in the on the job training if you have certification. Doing so can improve your knowledge in tackling the job. Although it is not necessary to receive a formal education, it is recommended for people who want to get a job in the field. Formal pharmacy technician education is offered through several types of organizations including vocational school, community college and etc. It can be offered at the military unit and hospital as well.
